Darracq was a French company founded in 1898 by Alexander Darracq, they successfully produced 1,2,4 cylinder cars and also the worlds first V8 , they merged with Sunbeam and Talbot after World War 1. This excellent example is a 1907 Twin cylinder Model R . It was delivered new as "last years model" in 1908 to Mr H. W Rasmus of Ucolta, near Peterborough in northern South Australia, he in turn sold the car to a neighbour, Mr Schultz who passed it on to Mr Ern Shackleford who converted it to a utility for his fruit business. This wonderful car was found in 1957 at Peterborough as a wreck and beautifully restored by Ron Bloyd, it has been in storage for the last 30 years. It has a 10-12hp 100mm bore x 120mm stroke 2 cylinder side valve engine and a 3 speed column change progressive gearbox, it runs and drives very well with a good turn of speed! Fitted with a beautiful Lucas King of the Road Projector Brass carbide headlight and Lucas King of the Road kerosine sidelights. The radiator is not correct for this model but the mostly complete original radiator is included if you wish to change it back. As you may see from the original foto, this car was a tourer when new but has been restored as this handsome 2 seater (as it was when found). The original rear seat and doors are included. (unrestored).A rare 100year old 2 cylinder brass veteran in very good condition and realistically priced.
