This stunning 1903 single cylinder Curved Dash Oldsmobile Type R was restored to a Concours standard almost 50 years ago by Eric Rainsford, it is highly original. This car has been lovingly cared for and now shows a wonderful patina. The paintwork is still excellent, the deep button leather trim is superb, the original style double duc hood is as it was when new. The Curved Dash Oldsmobile has a single cylinder 5 hp engine of 1.6 litres (maximum 500rpm, 1 beat per telegraph pole!), a 2 speed epicyclic gearbox and single chain drive. The chassis consists of 2 long springs, the steering is by tiller. The Type R has a wider track (called the "Southern Tread" model, its wheels were less likely to be caught in the narrower buggy tracks!). The Curved Dash Oldsmobile was the worlds first mass produced automobile, several thousand were built.This 1903 Oldsmobile has been restored to an exceptional standard many years ago, now after over 50 years it needs a new custodian, a very special opportunity.
