Whippet Model 96 Tourer 1927

This great 1927 Whippet Model 96 Tourer has a known history from new. The Whippet was produced by the Willys Overland Company from 1926 - 1931. At that time the model 96 was advertised as a sporty, young persons car! It has a reliable 4 cylinder 40hp engine (strongly resembles the WW2 Jeep engine!), 3 speed centre change gearbox and 4 wheel brakes. This amazingly original car was sold new to August H Freund of Mt Mary in South Australia in 1927, he used it only occasionally until it was traded in 1962, he was 86 years old at that time! The country dealership kept the Whippet as a showroom display for many years, it has had 2 owners since (the last for around 14 years) Fitted with all its original features including Overland Monobeam headlights, shockabsorbers and luggage rack. The 1927 instruction manual is also included, it still has its 1927 reg number SA 75787! The paintwork, trim, hood and side curtains are all in good order, it now shows a wonderful patina. An original brass plaque on the dash sternly points out that "persons riding in this vehicle do it at their own risk"This Whippet was restored many years ago, it still presents well, it drives as it should. A great rally car and in my opinion excellent value!
