Hupmobile Model R1 Roadster 1918
This Charming 1918 Hupmobile Series R1 has had a ground up restoration in the 80’s and has not been used much since.. It”s history is known from new! One of only 6 examples sold new in Adelaide by the Phoenix motor company in 1918, we believe this is the only survivor. The original owner was Mr J R Brown of Toorak Gardens , on Mr Brown’s death the Hupmobile was kept by the family, during renovations it was bricked up inside the original owners house, a wall was pulled down many years later to remove the car! It has been restored to a high standard to original specification with great attention to detail. The Hupp Motor Company of Detroit ran from 1909 to 1941. The Model R1 has a reliable 4 cylinder side valve engine ,around 3,200cc with magneto ignition and a 3 speed centre change gearbox, large 24” detachable wooden wheels and electric start and lighting, the Model R was built from 1918 to 1925. This rare Veteran Hupmobile runs and drives well with a strong performance, one of only a few survivors.
